Majority of people are not fully aware of the precautions they should take while using home EV charger. Following is the list of necessary precautions, the user has to take while charging the electrical vehicle from home car charger.

Do not charge the Battery to its full Capacity

This advice is, especially for people who charge their batteries regularly, do not charge your electrical vehicle to its full capacity. Such batteries which are charged regularly to their full capacity may get degraded soon. It is recommended to keep the charge of the battery between 20% to 90%.  Similarly, it is equally harmful to drain the battery completely every day.

Prefer slow charging for your Electrical Vehicle

Usually, home EV charger users use fast chargers to charge their electrical vehicle. Although fast chargers, due to their enormous charging speed, completely charge the vehicle within an hour; however, using fast charges regularly can reduce the life of your battery. Slow charging ensures long life of battery and also reduces safety hazards.

Avoid Excessive Discharge

When the electrical vehicles are not used for a long time, their batteries will be discharged. Hence, it is recommended that you should charge your electrical at least once in a month from your residential EV charger. This will enhance your EV battery’s life and ensure the safety of your Electrical vehicle.

Do Not charge your Electrical Vehicle at high Temperature

Never charge your EV battery at high temperature because this will reduce the life of your battery. As you know the process of charging generates lot of heat, hence, it is recommended that your home EV charger should be installed at a place which have proper ventilation; otherwise, it will create safety hazards. It is also recommended that you should avoid direct charging during high temperature. A cool place and environment are the best for your home EV charging station.

Before Charging check Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment

Before charging, make it a habit, to check your Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). Always ensure that your charging gun and car charging interface are dry and in best condition.

Ensure that EV charging Plug should not heat up

EV charging plug is an important part of your home EV charging station. You must know that oxidation of contact surface or the looseness of charging plug will heat-up the plug. If you continue charging in such situation, it can cause a short circuit or damage your EVSE and your battery. Thus, it is highly recommended that your EV charging plug must be in immaculate condition. If you find oxidation in the EV charging plug, remove it immediately or replace your EVSE parts.

Turn-off Electrical Vehicle Power Supply while Charging

Be sure to turn off all your car’s electrical equipment while charging your electrical vehicle; otherwise, it will accelerate the power consumption of your vehicle which will ultimately heat up your battery. Such precautions will enhance your battery’s life.

Pull out the Charging Gun only when the charging is complete

Never try to pull out your charging gun directly before the charger stops. Pullig out the charging gun in between the charging process will damage EVSE as well as your Electrical Vehicle’s battery.

If the user follows these precautions, while charging your electrical vehicle at your home EV charging station, the home EV charger will run smoothly.
